An invitation to my Thai family dinner
In Thailand, cooking and eating this world-famous cuisine is taken quite to heart. It is what brings people together as a family and sharing is a big part of that. Food is never served to an individual and you never put everything on your plate at once. Instead choose small portions of a few dishes with some sauce over your rice. Refill your plate as many times as you like and try everything!   More about Thai food culture

What’s in a menu?

The charm of Thai food comes from a combination and contrast of flavours and textures of different dishes meant to complement each other. The menu will take you through the culinary culture of Thailand, experiencing communal norms through the titillation of your taste buds. So, we therefore, do not serve individual portions. All dishes served are meant to be shared.

Khao Taan?

Khao (ข้าว) means rice and generally refers to food. The Thais use the word in various ways. For example, if they ask you if you’ve already eaten rice, they would like to know how you are.

Taan (ตาล) is my grandmother’s name. She began my lifelong love of food and cooking. She was always in the kitchen and my favourite childhood memories are sitting by her side and helping her with the cooking. She never used recipes and the food always turned out heavenly. My grandmother is my hero and inspiration.

A very picky Thai guy

I hail from, you guessed it, Thailand and want to share authentic Thai food with all the food enthusiasts in Berlin. Born to a Chinese-Thai family, we’ve owned and run a traditional Chinese bakery for almost a hundred years. I’ve always loved cooking and of course, eating! Coming from my background meant a great emphasis on higher education growing up and respectable career paths included becoming a doctor, engineer, or a lawyer. So, I became a lawyer. But my passion kept calling me and I took the radical decision to start anew and go to Switzerland to study hospitality management and that is where I was first introduced to professional cooking.

I moved to Berlin in 2009 where I worked in different hospitality companies, spending a lot of time in offices. At the time, the city didn’t offer authentic Thai food. I found myself spending a lot of my free time in the kitchen cooking and inviting friends over for meals, laughs, and too much wine!

I finally decided to cook for a living in 2016 and have since regularly circuited the street food markets in Berlin, such as Markthalle 9 and Bite Club.

And now finally in 2019 my dream is coming true…my own restaurant! Come over and I’ll take your palates to different parts of Thailand. I believe, there is magic, when you share a delicious meal with a lot of (choose tipple of choice) and time.
